Canes put Sergei Samsonov on IR
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes have placed left winger Sergei Samsonov on injured reserve and say he won't travel with the team to Europe.
The Hurricanes said Thursday that Samsonov would be re-evaluated when the team returns.
Carolina leaves for Europe following Friday afternoon's preseason game against the Atlanta Thrashers and wraps up the exhibition schedule Monday in Russia before it opens the regular season with two games against the Minnesota Wild next week in Finland.
Samsonov injured his neck when he was tripped into the boards in a preseason game last week in Atlanta.
