Sheldon Souray remains in AHL
Sheldon Souray cleared re-entry waivers Monday, for now leaving the veteran defenseman stuck in the AHL.
The Edmonton Oilers placed Souray on re-entry waivers Saturday hoping the demand for defensemen around the league ahead of next Monday's trade deadline would inspire a club to take a chance on Souray -- especially since re-entry waivers means he would only come at half his remaining contract and salary.
Souray, 34, is signed through next season at $4.5 million in salary, but his salary-cap hit is $5.4 million.
The Oilers assigned Souray, who asked for a trade last offseason, to Hershey of the AHL earlier this season.
