Mike Green out at least 2 weeks
Capitals defenseman Mike Green is out "at least a couple of weeks, maybe longer" with a head injury, general manager George McPhee said Monday.
Green took an apparent elbow to the head from the Rangers' Derek Stepan on Friday. He left the game and has not played since.
Earlier in February, Green took a puck to the head -- a Brooks Orpik shot to the ear -- in a win over Pittsburgh.
The Capitals acquired defenseman Dennis Wideman from the Florida Panthers for prospect Jake Hauswirth and a third-round 2011 pick before the trade deadline.
Wideman, 27, has one more year on his contract, worth $3.9 million. He had 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) and 33 penalty minutes while playing in 61 games for the Panthers.
The move gives the Capitals more scoring punch from the defense and adds needed depth as they deal with injuries to Green and Tom Poti.
Green has 8 goals and 24 points in 49 games this season.
