Manny Malhotra out indefinitely
VANCOUVER -- Vancouver center Manny Malhotra has undergone surgery and is out indefinitely after getting hit near the eye by a puck during a win over Colorado.
Malhotra does not wear a visor on his helmet and was hit around the eye by a deflected puck early in the second period on Wednesday's game, leaving a trail of blood as he skated quickly off the ice holding his face.
Coach Alain Vigneault said after practice Thursday the team is concerned about Malhotra's vision, adding there was no timeline on a return pending an appointment with a specialist later in the day.
The 30-year-old Malhotra signed a three-year, $7.5 million free agent contract last summer to anchor a shutdown third line and improve the Canucks penalty killing, which is No. 2 in the league.
