Reports: Flyers to host Rangers

The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers will reportedly play in the 2012 Winter Classic.

The Flyers will host the Rangers on Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park, according to a report Thursday on phillyburbs.com.

The Flyers wanted to host the game at Lincoln Financial Field, CSNPhilly.com reported, but were unable to because the Philadelphia Eagles are slated to host the Washington Redskins there on New Year's Day, assuming there's no NFL lockout. The NHL moved the game back a day so it wouldn't go head to head with the NFL, CSNPhilly.com reported.

This will be the NHL's fifth Winter Classic and the third played at a major league baseball stadium.

The Chicago Blackhawks played host to the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field in 2009, while the Flyers took on the Boston Bruins at Fenway Park in 2010.
