Kovalchuk picked as best pure scorer
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION Who do you think is the best pure goal-scorer in the NHL? (not on own team) Kovalchuk 15 (50 percent) Hull 7 (22 percent) Nash 4 (14 percent) Hejduk 2 (7 percent) Others 2 (7 percent)
Anaheim -- Petr Sykora: Brett Hull
"I think it's still Hullie (Brett Hull). He still plays a classic goal-scorer's role. He's always put with the best passer, like (Pavel) Datsyuk. He's still like the old-fashioned goal-scorer. I still like to watch him. It's amazing how he can do it year after year."

Atlanta -- Anonymous: Brett Hull
Boston -- Hal Gill: Brett Hull
"It's hard not to say Brett Hull. Every time he gets the puck, it's a missile, and it's at the crossbar. If it's not in, it usually hits a post -- hard."
Buffalo -- Daniel Briere: Ilya Kovalchuk
Calgary -- Craig Conroy: Brett Hull
"I watched him score goals. I would think goals that I didn't think could possibly go in, he'd scored. That's what makes him Brett Hull. Because you don't even have to put it where he can one-time it; you just have to put it somewhere around his stick. He finds ways. He doesn't look like he's unbelievably fast, but when the puck is there, he has another gear. He goes to the net and he just feels it. He just has that confidence, that air about him. I got to play with him so much; he's definitely the guy."
Carolina -- Josef Vasicek: Milan Hejduk
Chicago -- Jocelyn Thibault: Ilya Kovalchuk
"He's got great hands and a big shot."
Colorado -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk
Columbus -- David Vyborny: Ilya Kovalchuk
Dallas -- Anonymous: Rick Nash
Detroit -- Boyd Devereaux: Dany Heatley
Edmonton -- Jussi Markkanen: Rick Nash
"Considering how young he is. He also has the size."
Florida -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk
Los Angeles -- Alexander Frolov: Brett Hull
Minnesota -- Marian Gaborik: Ilya Kovalchuk
Montreal -- Saku Koivu: Rick Nash
"We don't see him a lot, but he has been a pleasant surprise from the highlights. It's only his first year ... but he scores big goals."
Nashville -- Shane Hnidy; Ilya Kovalchuk
"He's got such a quick release and a great shot."
New Jersey -- Brian Rafalski: Brett Hull
"It seem that a lot of his shots find a way in. In the game we played against them, he put a shot in through a hole the size of a puck."
NY Islanders -- Rick DiPietro: Ilya Kovalchuk
"Right now Ilya Kovalchuk is the guy I'd want on the ice if I needed a goal."
NY Rangers -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk Ottawa -- Anonymous: Brett Hull
Philadelphia -- Sami Kapanen: Ilya Kovalchuk
"He's just so hungry to score goals. When he gets the puck, he's not looking to pass. He takes every shot, he gets a lot of ice time, you can sense he wants the goal, and he's not satisfied if he doesn't get it."
Phoenix -- Andrei Nazarov: Peter Forsberg
"He does so many things well, but I think Peter Forsberg can score goals as well as anyone. If he wanted to focus on it, he could score 40-50 goals."
Pittsburgh -- Lasse Pirjeta: Rick Nash
"He's unbelievable -- he can score all kinds of goals, any way you want them."
San Jose -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk
St. Louis -- Anonymous: Milan Hejduk.
Tampa Bay -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk
Toronto -- Anonymous: Ilya Kovalchuk
Vancouver -- Johan Hedberg: Ilya Kovalchuk
Washington -- Dainius Zubrus: Ilya Kovalchuk
"Ilya Kovalchuk is probably that guy. He has a real scoring touch. If you just look at that part of the game, he's probably as good as they come."
