CHICAGO -- The Western Conference finals took on another surprising twist Sunday before the puck was even dropped for Game 4 between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.

Nicklas Lidstrom, the Red Wings' six-time Norris Trophy winner, was scratched.

"Lower body, day to day," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told ESPN.com before the game.

Hart Trophy nominee Pavel Datsyuk also missed a second straight game with a foot injury.

On the Chicago side, Martin Havlat took warm-up and decided afterward that he would play. Havlat was knocked out by a vicious hit from Detroit's Niklas Kronwall in Game 3 on Friday night and was widely expected not to be able play in Game 4.

Blackhawks goalie Nikolai Khabibulin (lower body) did not take warm-up and is out for Game 4. Cristobal Huet gets the start.

Kris Draper also was a scratch for Detroit, which activated defenseman Chris Chelios for the first time in the series.
