MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens have called up defenseman P.K. Subban from the American Hockey League and he is expected to play in Monday's do-or-die Game 6 against the Washington Capitals.

Subban was recalled after the Hamilton Bulldogs, Montreal's AHL affiliate, eliminated Manitoba in their AHL playoff series on Sunday night. It's the last minor league call-up the Canadiens will be allowed until the Bulldogs are eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs.

The Canadiens trail the Capitals 3-2 in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series and must win Monday to force a deciding Game 7 on Wednesday.

There had been discussion of calling up Subban earlier in the series when Jaroslav Spacek left the lineup due to illness and Marc-Andre Bergeron struggled against the Capitals. At the time, Montreal coach Jacques Martin said he didn't want to use the team's last call-up.

Subban has three goals and six assists in six postseason games for Hamilton. He had 18 goals and 53 points for the Bulldogs during the regular season, ranking third among all AHL defensemen.
