SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Detroit Red Wings made a decision before their playoff series with the San Jose Sharks that might cost them money.

The Red Wings chose to land their plane at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday -- 49 minutes past curfew at San Jose International Airport -- and face a $2,500 fine by the airport.

Detroit won Game 7 on Tuesday night at Phoenix, leaving only one day off before playing Game 1 of its second-round series Thursday night at San Jose.

Red Wings spokesman John Hahn says the team appreciates that the airport accommodated the late landing and it will accept the curfew fine. Airport spokesman David Vossbrink says the Red Wings have 10 days to respond.
