TV replays showed that the puck's impact broke part of Green's helmet.
Later in the second period, the defenseman returned to the bench and skated on the ice during TV timeouts, but did not take a shift. Coach Bruce Boudreau said in the postgame news conference that Green was fine and could have returned.
Green returned to the lineup for the opener of the series after missing a month and a half with a concussion. Green suffered the injury on Feb. 25 after a blindside hit from Rangers forward Derek Stepan.
The Capitals won the best-of-seven series 4-1.
