Ryane Clowe unavailable for Game 6
DETROIT -- There was no shortage of news ahead of Tuesday's Game 6 between the Sharks and Red Wings as San Jose star winger Ryane Clowe has been ruled out, and Detroit veteran forward Mike Modano finally will get back into the lineup.
Sharks coach Todd McLellan said Clowe, who did not accompany the team to Detroit, has an upper-body injury. The winger leads the team in playoff scoring with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 11 games.
San Jose leads the Western Conference semifinal series 3-2.
Clowe took a huge hit from Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall in Game 5, although he did not miss a shift.
McLellan said Clowe's injury had "nothing to do with the hit Kronwall laid on him."
McLellan would not say who would replace Clowe in the lineup, adding he still is considering his options.
Meanwhile, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock confirmed after Tuesday's morning skate that Johan Franzen will miss the game after tweaking his ankle in Game 5.
Franzen's absence opens the door for Modano, who has played only one game in these playoffs, in the first round against Phoenix.
