Wings, Hasek A Step Closer
Tomas Holmstrom Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom, right, had two quick goals.

Virtually lost amidst the noise of all those goals going in the Colorado net was the fact that Dominik Hasek posted his fifth shutout of this postseason, sending the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup finals with a 7-0 victory Friday night. While Patrick Roy was getting riddled with shots on the other end of the ice, and pulled in the second period, Hasek got a step closed to his cherished goal, winning the Stanley Cup.

BILL CLEMENT

The Avs have the most dominant offensive player in Peter Forsberg, they have a slight edge in goaltending with Patrick Roy, and they are more battle-tested than Detroit. Looking at total hits, the Wings may be able to match the Avs, but Detroit's forwards do the majority of the hitting. Colorado's defensemen are punishing; over a long series, they are no fun to play against. Very slight edges in multiple areas add up to a Colorado victory.
