San Jose players injured in first-round play

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Injured forwards Scott Thornton and Alyn McCauley sat out Game 5 of the San Jose Sharks' playoff series with the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

McCauley, the Sharks' third-leading scorer in the regular season, hasn't played since Game 1, when he tripped over Murray Baron's stick and injured his shoulder in a collision with the boards.

Thornton suffered an undisclosed injury late in Game 4 after scoring two goals in the Sharks' 4-3 victory.

Rookie Marcel Goc made his NHL debut for the Sharks in place of Thornton, and Mark Smith played his fourth straight game in McCauley's spot.
