2007-2008 Power Rankings: Week 16
  RK (PV)   TEAM REC. COMMENT
1 (1)   Red Wings 37-10-4 As the second half begins, Detroit is still on top, Henrik Zetterberg is expected to return to the lineup and there are rumblings of Peter Forsberg coming to town. Life is good.
2 (2)   Sharks 28-15-7 Evgeni Nabokov continued his torrid pace after the break, recording his sixth shutout of the season. And, by the way, what's wrong with Patrick Marleau?
3 (4)   Senators 32-15-4 The Senators won their first game after the break, but many are still wondering if this is the same team that dominated the standings at season's start. All this, and Ray Emery showed up late for practice again.
4 (3)   Devils 28-19-3 With 33 games left on New Jersey's schedule, there will be 18 back-to-back situations. That's gonna put some pressure on goalie Martin Brodeur.
5 (5)   Penguins 28-18-4 Now, the real test begins for the Crosby-less Penguins.
6 (10)   Stars 29-20-5 The Stars continue to hold their own in the Pacific Division, but are again without Sergei Zubov (foot, groin). Food for thought: In Dallas' last four games, it is 1-for-20 on the power play without Zubov in the lineup.
7 (9)   Flyers 28-16-5 The Flyers still lead the Atlantic and started off the second half strong by earning their first overtime win since Oct. 20.
8 (6)   Ducks 27-20-6 The Ducks dropped three straight before the break, but have no fear, Teemu Selanne is here!
9 (7)   Flames 25-17-8 Jarome Iginla's seven-game scoring drought isn't as cold as the sub-zero temps stretching through Alberta this week. Minus-22?! Brrr!
10 (11)   Canadiens 27-15-8 The Canadiens have won five of their last six games and are 7-2-1 over their last 10.
10 (8)   Wild 28-19-3 Marian Gaborik looked real good during the All-Star Game, huh?
12 (14)   Coyotes 27-21-2 The younger core of this club is really stepping up, especially Peter Mueller, who has six goals and seven assists in his last 10 games.
13 (13)   Canucks 26-20-5 Roberto Luongo: "I wish I could pitch 82 shutouts for you guys." Real meaning: This is what happens when I have no offensive support to back up my studliness every night.
14 (12)   Islanders 24-21-6 The Islanders' power play continues to struggle in finding consistency. They are 2-for-16 over their last five games.
15 (15)   Rangers 24-22-6 Right now, the Rangers are the only Atlantic team NOT in the playoff picture.
16 (16)   Blues 23-19-7 Can Manny Legace be miked up for every game from here on out until he retires?
17 (17)   Hurricanes 25-24-4 The Hurricanes are feeling the heat from the Capitals in the Southeast ... meanwhile, Eric Staal and his brothers fight over the new ride.
18 (18)   Avalanche 26-20-4 Colorado's next month will be challenging as 10 of their 14 February games will be on the road; four of the 14 will be against the Wings and Ducks, and Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth are still on the injured list.
19 (19)   Blue Jackets 25-21-6 How will this team, and its fans, rebound from losing local favorite and tough guy Jody Shelley (who was traded to the Sharks this week)?
20 (21)   Bruins 26-19-5 TIMMY!
21 (20)   Predators 25-21-5 The Preds are hoping they don't lose that pre-All-Star break momentum -- they went 8-3-2 before the NHL's trip to Atlanta.
22 (22)   Capitals 23-23-5 Ditto for the Capitals, who are trying to knock the Hurricanes out of the top spot in the Southeast.
23 (23)   Blackhawks 23-23-4 Let's just quote Patrick Sharp, shall we? "It's now or never. Everyone knows how close the standings are, [but] a couple of wins and we're right back in it. We're aware of that and we can't wait any longer."
24 (25)   Sabres 22-21-6 The Brian Campbell clock is still ticking.
25 (24)   Oilers 23-25-5 Sheldon Souray's shoulder is giving him fits again; meanwhile, GM Kevin Lowe told reporters he's "not going to do a deal for next year" heading into the Feb. 26 deadline.
26 (26)   Panthers 22-24-5 With about two and a half months left in the regular season, the Panthers sit 12th in the East. Sound familiar?
27 (27)   Thrashers 23-25-4 The All-Star buzz is over and it's back to reality for the Thrashers, who look to snap a five-game losing skid.
28 (28)   Lightning 20-26-5 After a dud of a game to start the second half, will GM Jay Feaster really stick to his "no deal" stance? We think not. We hope not.
29 (29)   Kings 20-29-3 The Rob Blake clock is still ticking.
30 (30)   Maple Leafs 20-24-8 Mats Sundin told reporters this week that he'd be open to talking to Leafs interim GM Cliff Fletcher about his future with the franchise. Whoa, Nelly!
