2007-2008 Power Rankings: Week 17
  RK (PV)   TEAM REC. COMMENT
1 (1)   Red Wings 41-10-4 Red Wings fans likely are hoping their team doesn't pull a Patriots on them, but ... eight straight wins and counting.
2 (6)   Stars 32-20-5 So, the Stars won't get Peter Forsberg. Does it matter at this point?
3 (2)   Sharks 29-16-7 Will the injuries to the Sharks' defense (Douglas Murray, Alexei Semenov and Kyle McLaren) catch up with them? San Jose still trails Dallas in the Pacific.
4 (4)   Devils 30-20-3 The Devils continue to push for the Atlantic Division lead, but coach Brent Sutter reportedly is still not happy with the team's play.
5 (7)   Flyers 30-17-5 While the Flyers have been unable to solve the Devils (they are 1-5-0 vs. New Jersey this season), they still sit atop the division and were 8-2-0 in their past 10 games.
6 (3)   Senators 32-18-4 The Senators once held a 10-point lead over the Canadiens in the Northeast Division. As of Wednesday morning, Montreal is now within one point of Ottawa.
7 (10)   Canadiens 29-16-9 The league's best power play (25.4 percent) continues to roll, as Montreal has lost just twice in regulation over the past 10 games.
8 (5)   Penguins 29-19-5 The Penguins now are 3-2-2 since losing Sidney Crosby to a high ankle sprain.
9 (9)   Flames 27-19-8 Pretty dramatic way for Jarome Iginla to snap his 10-game goal-scoring slump, huh? He got into a fight versus Phoenix to boot. Someone had to make up for that 5-0 loss to the rival Oil.
10 (10)   Wild 30-19-4 Minny's 6-2-2 run has the Wild sitting atop the Northwest Division ... for now.
11 (8)   Ducks 28-22-7 Teemu to the rescue?
12 (12)   Coyotes 28-22-4 The Coyotes might have dropped three of their past four games, but they still gained points in two of those losses.
13 (15)   Rangers 27-23-6 The Rangers are 3-1-0 since last week, and Chris Drury (7) and Scott Gomez (4) have combined for 11 points over that span. We ask again: Is this when New York finally turns a corner?
14 (21)   Predators 28-21-5 Our Wacky Mover of the Week! For a team that wasn't supposed to have a chance this season, the Preds are 7-2-1 over their past 10 games and currently hold a playoff spot in the West.
15 (18)   Avalanche 28-21-5 The Avs go back to using Jose Theodore in net this week after he missed three games with back spasms. Before that, he was 6-4-1 with a 1.94 GAA and a .930 save percentage in 11 straight starts.
16 (14)   Islanders 24-24-6 The Islanders lose ground, since they posted five straight losses. New York was outscored 19-5 over that span.
17 (13)   Canucks 26-21-7 Just one win in nine games, and counting.
18 (16)   Blues 24-21-7 While Manny Legace called his recent play "embarrassing," the Blues still are just six points out of a playoff spot in the West.
19 (17)   Hurricanes 26-26-4 The Hurricanes' current five-game road trip did not get off to a good start (they dropped the first two games), but anything seems possible in the Southeast.
20 (19)   Blue Jackets 25-23-7 Pascal Leclaire is out of the lineup indefinitely with a bruised neck. As Rick Nash called the goalie the backbone of their team, how will the Blue Jackets respond?
21 (20)   Bruins 27-21-5 The Bruins lost two straight, but they still are fighting for playoff position in the East. The road will get tough, as six of their next 10 games are away from TD Banknorth Garden.
22 (22)   Capitals 25-24-5 Six goals in three games for Alexander Ovechkin, two in the clutch. He leads the league in goals, points, shots and power-play goals. What else is there to say?
23 (24)   Sabres 24-21-7 Reports surfaced this week that Brian Campbell might be open to talking contract. We don't know if Buffalo can take another player-to-leave disappointment.
24 (25)   Panthers 25-25-5 We have seen these late-season surges from Florida before, and we know how the story ends.
25 (27)   Thrashers 26-26-4 The Thrashers were 3-1-0 over the past week. So, are they going to rebound just in time for Marian Hossa to get traded?
26 (23)   Blackhawks 23-24-5 There are 30 games left on the Hawks' schedule, and they are eight points out of a playoff spot. Is next season looking more like it?
27 (25)   Oilers 24-26-5 More bad news out of Oil Country this week as the team lost leading scorer Shawn Horcoff (shoulder injury) for the rest of the season.
28 (28)   Lightning 22-27-5 The Lightning are the second-worst team in the NHL, yet they are only seven points out of the division lead. How is this possible?
29 (29)   Kings 22-30-3 The Kings are 2-2-0 at the midway point of an eight-game road trip.
30 (30)   Maple Leafs 21-25-9 Former GM John Ferguson reportedly was at the Super Bowl last weekend. Meanwhile, the Leafs were beat 8-0 by the Panthers this week.
