PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres try to keep their fading playoff hopes alive on Saturday in the finale of a home-and-home series with the resurgent Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena.
The Sabres are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race, six points behind the New York Islanders for the eighth and final spot with just five games remaining.
Buffalo has won three consecutive games after losing four of five and rolled to a 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh at home on Friday.
Jay McKee and Chris Drury scored in a span of 60 seconds in the second period as the Sabres scored four unanswered goals and earned at least a point for the 10th time in 12 games.
Daniel Briere, Maxim Afinogenov and Andrew Peters also scored for Buffalo, which is danger of missing the playoffs three straight seasons for the first time in its 34-year history.
Milan Kraft scored for Pittsburgh, which had its three game winning streak snapped and fell to 10-3-2 following an 18-game losing streak.
The Sabres snapped a nine-game winless skid against the Penguins, winning for the first time in three meetings between the teams this season.
