SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks begin their third playoff series in five seasons on Thursday when they meet in the Western Conference quarterfinals at HP Pavilion.

The Sharks beat the Blues in seven games in the conference quarterfinals in 2000 before St. Louis avenged the defeat with a six-game triumph in the same round the following year.

San Jose, which had 104 points in the regular season, won the Pacific Division and is the second seed in the West. They won six of their final seven games.

St. Louis extended its playoff streak to 25 seasons despite dropping two of its final three games. It is the longest postseason streak in any of the four major North American sports.
