Mark Recchi, Alexei Zhamnov and defenseman Mattias Timander scored and Robert Esche made 24 saves for Philadelphia, which blew a three-games-to-one advantage against New Jersey in the conference finals four years ago.

Brian Gionta scored with 5:25 left to pull the defending Stanley Cup champions within 3-2, but they did not threaten the Flyers thereafter.
