RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes will look to snap their season-high three-game losing streak when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

Since opening the season with wins in 14 of their first 18 games, the Hurricanes have struggled defensively, allowing 14 goals during their three-game skid.

Despite the recent slide, the Hurricanes still lead the Southeast Division by two points over the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

Second-season sensation Staal netted his team-leading 15th goal on Tuesday, but Carolina dropped a 5-3 decision to the Ottawa Senators. The 21-year-old Staal also leads the Hurricanes in assists (18).

The Maple Leafs hope to rebound from a tough 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.

Tough guy Darcy Tucker scored the lone goal for Toronto, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
