Calgary (15-9-3) at Pittsburgh (7-13-6) 7:00 pm EST
PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Tony Amonte may not have his name on
the Stanley Cup, but he is closing in on a major milestone.
Amonte will seek his 400th career goal Saturday when the Calgary
Flames meet the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A 14-year veteran, Amonte has three 40-goal seasons, including a
career-high 44 in 1998-1999 with the Chicago Blackhawks. He
spent most of the 1993-94 campaign with the New York Rangers
before being traded to the "Windy City" prior to the playoffs.
Amonte scored his seventh goal of the season just 19 seconds
into the third period Thursday as the Flames rallied from a
two-goal deficit to post a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red
Ryan Whitney scored his first career goal Thursday, but the
Penguins were dealt a 2-1 defeat against the Rangers for their
fourth straight setback.
Two of Pittsburgh's biggest names have had trouble scoring
lately. Mario Lemieux, the seventh-leading scorer in history
(1,721 points), has gone four games without a point for the
first time in his career. Rookie sensation Sidney Crosby has
not scored in three contests.
Calgary, which is looking for its first victory at Pittsburgh
since February 12, 1989, won the most recent meeting against the
Penguins, 6-1, on December 7, 2003.
