TORONTO (Ticker) -- Ed Belfour hopes to achieve a historic milestone against his old team when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

With a victory against the Stars, Belfour would pass Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk for sole possession of second place on the NHL's all-time wins list.

A five-time All-Star, Belfour played with Dallas for five seasons from 1997-2002 and helped the Stars capture their only Stanley Cup title in franchise history in 1999.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winner has dropped his last three decisions in his pursuit of Sawchuk and enters Saturday's contest with 447 career victories.

Despite getting 21 saves from Belfour on Tuesday, Toronto dropped a 2-1 contest to the Los Angeles Kings. Darcy Tucker netted the lone tally - his fifth in five games - for the Maple Leafs, who have lost the first two games in their four-game homestand.

Dallas has won 12 of its last 14 and hopes to extend its winning streak to five games on Saturday.

The Stars, who open a six-game road trip Saturday, posted a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday thanks to Jere Lehtinen.

Dallas squandered a 3-0 first-period lead by allowing three tallies in the second session, but Lehtinen netted his team-leading 14th goal with 16 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
