Calgary (19-9-4) at Edmonton (18-11-4) 9:00 pm EST
EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) - The Calgary Flames have had a solid
December and are beginning to remind some people of their
Stanley Cup title team of 1988-1989.
The Flames try to win for the sixth time in seven outings Monday
when they meet the Edmonton Oilers for the fourth time this
season.
Calgary is off to its best start since winning its only Stanley
Cup championship and is 5-0-1 in its last six visits to
Edmonton. The Flames have taken two of three encounters against
their provincial rival this season.
Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff tied a franchise record with his
league-leading fifth shutout of the season by making 26 saves in
Calgary's 3-0 triumph over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Tony Amonte scored his ninth goal, rookie defenseman Dion
Phaneuf added his second and Stephane Yelle had a shorthanded
tally for the Flames, who have won their last three contests.
The Oilers do not have a regulation loss in seven games this
month and can tie Calgary for second place in the Northwest
Division with a win.
Shawn Horcoff scored a shorthanded goal in the third period and
Michael Peca added the game-winner in overtime Saturday as the
Oilers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the division-leading
Vancouver Canucks.
