SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- The Florida Panthers have been making the most of their home-ice advantage as they keep their sights set on a playoff spot.

Florida tries to improve its home mark to 9-1-1 in its last 11 games when it hosts the Columbus Blue Jackets in their lone meeting of the season.

After losing 12 straight games from October 27-November 23, the Panthers have made tremendous strides and are just five points behind New Jersey for the final Eastern Conference postseason spot.

Captain Olli Jokinen and Joe Nieuwendyk scored first-period goals for Florida in Thursday's 3-1 triumph over the St. Louis Blues. Nieuwendyk needs one goal for his 544th, which would tie Hall of Famer Maurice Richard on the all-time list.

Columbus fell short in its bid for a second three-game winning streak of the campaign with Friday's 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, the Blue Jackets became the last team to score 100 goals this season.

Nikolai Zherdev and David Vyborny scored in the third period and Rick Nash added an assist to give him 13 points in his last seven games for Columbus.

Florida, which is 4-0 against Central Division opponents, posted a 1-0 victory over Columbus in their last meeting January 3, 2004. Roberto Luongo made 42 saves for the Panthers.
