CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Calgary Flames try to widen their lead atop the Northwest Division when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Playing the third contest of a five-game road trip, the Flames have a two-point edge over Vancouver and four over Colorado in the division race. Calgary has the fewest goals (134) among the six division leaders and is ranked 25th in the league.
Chuck Kobasew ended a 13-game streak without a goal with his first career hat trick for the Flames, who had their four-game winning streak stopped in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Chicago continues to struggle with losses in 15 of their last 18 games, including four of its last five. Despite the disparity in their records, the Blackhawks have just eight fewer goals than the Flames this season.
Rene Bourque scored his seventh tally and Mark Bell added his 17th for Chicago, which fell short in an attempt to rally from a three-goal deficit in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
With goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin sidelined with knee and groin injuries, the Blackhawks have had to rely on youngsters Adam Munro and Corey Crawford, who have a combined 12 games of NHL experience.
Matthew Lombardi had a tie-breaking goal in the third period and Miikka Kiprusoff made 35 saves to lead Calgary to a 3-2 win over Chicago on January 2. The teams meet again Sunday.
