GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Looking to get on a hot streak as they drive toward a playoff berth, the Phoenix Coyotes open a 10-game homestand Saturday when they host the San Jose Sharks.

The Coyotes will try to take full advantage of the scheduling quirk that keeps them home through March 4, which includes the Olympic break next month.

Oleg Saprykin scored twice in the third period and added an assist Thursday as Phoenix posted a 5-3 over the St. Louis Blues on coach Wayne Gretzky's 45th birthday.

Phoenix is tied with San Jose for fourth place in the Pacific Division. Both teams trail Edmonton and Colorado by eight points for eighth place in the Western Conference.

San Jose was shut out for the first time this season with Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, their second regulation defeat in 11 games.

Jonathan Cheechoo failed in a bid to set a franchise record with points in 13 consecutive games. He has 10 goals and nine assists during that stretch.

The Coyotes have won all three meetings over the Sharks this season. Shane Doan scored twice and Phoenix had four goals in the third period of a 5-4 victory on December 28.
