DETROIT (Ticker) -- The top two teams in the Central Division collide Wednesday when the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings open a home-and-home series.

The Predators trail the Red Wings by five points. If they can duplicate their feat of a couple weeks ago, the deficit will be down to one.

Nashville posted consecutive wins here January 23 and 24. Goaltender Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves in each game, as the Predators won the opener, 3-2, then 2-1 in overtime.

The first meeting between Detroit and Nashville on November 21 was postponed because of Jiri Fischer's seizure on the bench, which was subsequently made up January 23.

Wednesday's game will be Nashville's second straight against a division leader after Monday's 4-2 loss to Pacific Division-leading Dallas. Vokoun had 36 saves, but allowed the go-ahead goal with less than a second to play in the second period.

Detroit posted a 3-0 home win against Colorado on Saturday. Goalie Manny Legace celebrated his 33rd birthday by making 28 stops as the Red Wings improved to 4-0-1 since the consecutive losses to the Predators.

The first completed game between Detroit and Nashville was a 3-1 Red Wings victory January 6 in Nashville, where the teams meet again Thursday.
