CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Miikka Kiprusoff passed on an opportunity to play in the Olympics in order to enhance the Calgary Flames' chances to capture the Stanley Cup.

Kiprusoff tries to become the first goaltender to reach 30 victories this season when the Flames meet the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Kiprusoff announced in December he would not play for Finland in Torino to rest an inflamed hip. The Finns were undefeated at the Olympics until Sunday's 3-2 loss to Sweden in the gold medal game.

After winning their last three contests prior to the break, the Flames have a two-point lead over the Canucks in the tightly-packed Northwest Division. Colorado is three points out of first and Edmonton is five back.

The Olympic tournament provided both highs and lows for some Vancouver players.

Henrik and Daniel Sedin were part of Sweden's gold medal-winning squad. However, Mattias Ohlund (ribs) and Sami Salo (shoulder) were injured and likely will miss the game against Calgary.

The Sedin brothers played a major part in Vancouver's 3-1 victory over Calgary in their previous encounter February 3. Henrik had a goal and an assist and Daniel recorded three assists to give Vancouver its second win over Calgary in six tries this season.
