CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- After adding another milestone to his stellar career, Joe Sakic wants to make sure the Colorado Avalanche remain in first place.

The Avalanche look to widen their lead in the Northwest Division race when they conclude a home-and-home series with the Calgary Flames on Monday.

Sakic became the 16th player to reach 900 assists and added his 565th career goal as Colorado moved past Calgary for first place with Sunday's 3-0 triumph. He needs one assist to tie Bryan Trottier and two points to match Stan Mikita (1,467) on the all-time list.

Milan Hejduk scored shorthanded and Alex Tanguay added a power-play tally to help hand netminder Miikka Kiprusoff his second loss in five outings.

In his second start since the Avalanche traded David Aebischer to Montreal for former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner Jose Theodore, rookie Peter Budaj made 33 saves for his first shutout and ninth victory.

Colorado has won three straight, seven of its last 10 and has 80 points, one more than the Flames, who have taken six of their last nine. Calgary is also fifth in the Western Conference, two points ahead of Los Angeles and three in front of Vancouver.

Flames coach Darryl Sutter will again try to record his 400th victory and lead his team after their fourth shutout loss of the campaign.
