Carolina, which leads the league with 96 points, continued its
magical season with a 5-1 triumph over Montreal on Thursday.
The Hurricanes improved to 4-0 against the Canadiens this
season, outscoring them by a combined 25-9 margin.
The story has been a similar one against Boston this season as
Carolina has won all three matchups by a 4-3 score, the latest
coming on March 1 as defenseman Aaron Ward scored two goals,
including the game winner late in the third period.
The Hurricanes are coming off Thursday's 5-1 win against
Montreal behind two-goal games from Ray Whitney and Justin
Williams. Eric Staal added his 40th goal of the campaign for
Carolina, which has won two straight following a three-game
Boston snapped a six-game losing streak with Thursday's 3-2
victory over Ottawa. Patrice Bergeron scored in regulation and
in the shootout and rookie Tim Thomas made 31 saves and denied
all three shootout attempts.
