UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Thrashers are trying not to look over their shoulders for fear someone may be gaining on them.

The Thrashers attempt to maintain their hold on eighth place in the Eastern Conference and win their fourth straight game Saturday when they visit the New York Islanders.

Looking to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in its history, Atlanta has won 11 of 14 and has rallied to move into the final postseason berth in the East, one point ahead of Montreal.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 44th goal and Peter Bondra added the game winner in overtime for the Thrashers, who swept the season series against the New Jersey Devils with Thursday's 6-5 win.

The Islanders are one of the teams that are trying to overtake Atlanta in the stretch drive. New York has dropped four of five and is seven points behind the Thrashers with 13 games to play.

Jason Blake scored his 25th goal and Trent Hunter added his 14th for the Islanders in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders won the first two meetings against the Thrashers before Atlanta posted a 4-2 triumph in their most recent meeting March 16.
