EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) - Sergei Samsonov and the Edmonton Oilers hope to hold on to a slim lead in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

The Oilers have lost 12 of their last 18 games but still own a two-point lead over the San Jose Sharks (36-25-10) for the eighth postseason berth in the conference. The Kings trail the Sharks by one point.

Edmonton looks to rebound from a tough 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

Samsonov had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who squandered a 2-1 lead in the third period.

Edmonton aims to win for the third time in four meetings this season against a Los Angeles squad that has lost eight of its last 11 overall.

Craig Conroy scored his 20th goal in the third period Wednesday, but the Kings dropped a 2-1 decision to the Calgary Flames.
