TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - Seeking the first playoff berth in franchise history, the Atlanta Thrashers have been on a roll and can't afford to let down.

The Thrashers try to win for the 12th time in 16 games and move closer to the final postseason berth in the Eastern Conference on Thursday when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Continuing a stretch of five road contests in six games, the Thrashers are in ninth place in the East, five points behind Tampa Bay, Montreal and New Jersey.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his team-leading 45th goal for Atlanta, which yielded the first five tallies in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders, snapping a three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the Thrashers have won 10 of their last 18 road games and need one victory to tie the single-season franchise record for road triumphs (16) set in 2002-2003.

Coming off a pair of shootout victories, Tampa Bay showed little offense in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Martin St. Louis scored his 25th goal on a power play in the second period.

Tampa Bay has won three of the five encounters against Atlanta this season, including a 2-0 triumph in their previous matchup January 21. Vincent Lecavalier and Fredrik Modin scored for the Lightning and John Grahame made 20 saves for his 10th career shutout.
