DETROIT (Ticker) -- Although they have 50 victories and a postseason spot locked up, the Detroit Red Wings have no intention of coasting into the playoffs.
The Red Wings look to finish March with a 12-3 mark Friday when they host their "Original Six" rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks, in their seventh matchup of the season. Closing in on another Central Division title, Detroit is one victory away from the second-highest total in franchise history. The Red Wings have a six-point lead over Dallas in the Western Conference and a two-point edge over Ottawa for the Presidents' Trophy.
Brendan Shanahan and Jason Williams had a goal and an assist each and Steve Yzerman added two assists for Detroit, which won its seventh straight road game in Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators.
Opening a three-game road trip, Chicago has dropped five of six, is 29th in goals (183), and has a two-point lead over St. Louis to avoid the cellar in the West.
Milan Bartovic and Duncan Keith scored in the first period and Kyle Calder netted the game-winner in overtime as the Blackhawks snapped a five-game losing streak with Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blues.
Detroit has won all six encounters against Chicago this season, outscoring the Blackhawks, 27-14.
