Buffalo at Philadelphia 7:00 pm EDT
Eastern Conference quarterfinals Sabres lead, 2-1
PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Flyers will need to be
more than lucky if they are going to even their series with the
Buffalo Sabres at two games apiece.
Two days after a pair of fortunate bounces helped them to their
biggest victory of the season, the Flyers will try to ride the
momentum into Friday's matchup with the Sabres in Game Four of
their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Fifth-seeded Philadelphia dropped the series opener in double
overtime before absorbing an ugly 8-2 rout in Game Two.
Fourth-seeded Buffalo again stuck early in Wednesday's Game
Three on a tally from Ales Kotalik before the Flyers showed some
much-needed resiliency.
Brian Savage's shorthanded goal tied it at 1-1 less than four
minutes later before Peter Forsberg scored twice in the second
period - both on bizarre bounces - to give Philadelphia control
of the game.
After being pulled in Game Two, Robert Esche bounced back with a
26-save effort for the Flyers, whose fans taunted Sabres goalie
Ryan Miller after Esche had been harassed by Buffalo's fans in
Games One and Two.
Tim Connolly scored a third-period goal and Miller finished with
23 saves for the Sabres, who went 0-for-7 with the man
advantage in their worst game of the series.
Buffalo hosts Philadelphia in Game Five on Sunday.
