BOSTON (Ticker) -- When the Boston Bruins have needed late
heroics to keep their winning streak alive, Patrice Bergeron has
managed to supply them.
Bergeron can score the deciding goal for the fourth time in five
contests as the Bruins go for their season-high fifth
consecutive victory Monday against the Florida Panthers.
After scoring 31 goals for Boston last season, the 21-year-old
Bergeron has six tallies and nine assists to rank third on the
team in points.
Bergeron netted the game-winner in the third period to enable
Boston to beat the Ottawa Senators on November 11. He also
recorded the shootout clincher against the Washington Capitals
on Wednesday and an overtime tally Friday against the Toronto
Maple Leafs.
Glen Murray scored in overtime, P.J. Axelsson added his sixth
tally and Marc Savard collected two assists for the Bruins in
Saturday's 3-2 triumph over the Capitals.
Florida has dropped five of its last six outings and is in last
place in the Southeast Division. The Panthers are just 1-6-3 on
the road this season.
Despite taking 44 shots on goal, Florida only received Ville
Peltonen's first tally of the season in Saturday's 4-1 loss to
the New York Islanders.
Joe Nieuwendyk scored twice and Todd Bertuzzi collected a goal
and two assists to lead the Panthers to an 8-3 victory over the
Bruins in the season opener on October 6.
