SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- In order for the Florida Panthers to continue in the direction they are going, they have to send the New York Rangers the other way.
The Panthers face the Rangers, who are beginning a four-game road trip, for the fourth time this season Thursday.
Florida posted a 7-3 victory over Toronto on Tuesday for its second consecutive win following a four-game slide. Gary Roberts scored two goals and Josef Stumpel had four assists.
Olli Jokinen had two assists while Ed Belfour made 33 saves for the Panthers, who went 2-for-6 on the power play.
Meanwhile, New York has dropped its last three contests.
Jaromir Jagr netted two goals and Brendan Shanahan and Martin Straka had two assists apiece, but the Rangers fell short, 4-3, to the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Kevin Weekes stopped 22 shots for the Rangers, who have been outscored, 19-6, during their slide.
Florida has dropped two of its three meetings this campaign with New York, including a 2-1 loss on December 10.
