RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Alexei Yashin missed eight games with a knee injury and it looks like the rest did him good.

Yashin leads the Islanders against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday as New York searches for its third straight win over the Stanley Cup champions this season.

The center returned from his injury and had a goal in a 6-0 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on December 16 and also scored in the Islanders' 4-3 win over the Rangers on Tuesday. The Islanders went 3-5-0 in the eight games he missed.

Jason Blake registered a hat trick in the victory over the Rangers while Rick DiPietro made 30 saves.

The Hurricanes go for their third straight win after a 2-1 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Anton Babchuk netted the game-winner while Justin Williams also scored to extend his point streak to five games in which he has four goals and two assists.

In 77 career games against the Islanders, Carolina center Rod Brind'Amour has 36 goals and 80 points.
