BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres suffered an embarrassing 2-1 loss to the lowly St. Louis Blues on December 23 and have responded accordingly since.

Buffalo goes for its fourth straight win since that defeat when they host the New York Islanders on Monday.

The Sabres downed the Atlanta Thrashers, 4-1, on Saturday for their third consecutive win. Thomas Vanek led Buffalo with two goals while Ryan Miller finished with 29 saves.

The Islanders have lost two straight games and have been shutout in both contests. On Saturday, New York dropped a 2-0 decision to the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders could not beat Martin Brodeur with any of their 29 shots.

Rick DiPietro was sharp in goal for the Islanders, stopping 32 of 34 shots. DiPietro is 16-12-1 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
