Olli Jokinen is in his 11th NHL season, but has never been to the playoffs. Joining the Calgary Flames will likely end that drought.

Jokinen could make his Flames debut Thursday night, when the Northwest Division-leaders continue their season-high seven-game road trip against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Selected third overall in the 1997 draft, Jokinen has totaled 229 goals and 274 assists in 780 regular-season games with four different clubs. The durable Jokinen was acquired by Phoenix in June after seven seasons with Florida, where he missed seven games in seven seasons and left as the franchise's all-time leading scorer.

With 21 goals and 21 assists, Jokinen was the second-leading scorer for the Coyotes, who are two points ahead of last-place Colorado in the Western Conference. But his postseason chances improved greatly when the Flames (38-19-6) acquired him hours before the trade deadline.

Calgary also received a third-round draft pick, sending forwards Matthew Lombardi and Brandon Prust and a conditional first-round selection to Phoenix.

"The season is going to start again," Jokinen told the Flames' official Web site. "Going to a place where there are high expectations and the people expect a 'W' every night, that's what you want."

Also on Wednesday, the Flames re-acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold -- who played with them from 2002-06 -- from Colorado, but the acquisition of Jokinen adds to an already solid offense.

He's expected to center the top line between captain Jarome Iginla and Michael Cammalleri, who lead the Flames with 74 and 64 points, respectively. Iginla has seven goals and six assists during a five-game point streak, while Cammalleri has four goals and five assists in his last four.

Cammalleri assisted on one of Iginla's two goals Tuesday, and David Moss recorded his first career hat trick in a 6-3 win at Ottawa to kick off the Flames' swing. Calgary improved to 8-1-2 in its last 11 after a season-high four-game slide from Feb. 2-7.

Philadelphia (34-18-10) has been riding almost as good a surge lately, posting an 8-3-1 record since Feb. 7. It avoided a third straight defeat Tuesday, getting three-point performances from Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble in a 4-2 victory at East-leading Boston to remain fourth in the tightly packed conference.

Trailing Atlantic-leading New Jersey by nine points, the Flyers didn't make any deals to bolster their offense on Wednesday, but added toughness as they acquired left wing Daniel Carcillo from Phoenix for forward Scottie Upshall and a 2011 second-round draft pick.

Carcillo, the league-leader with 174 penalty minutes after notching an NHL-high 324 last season, has three goals and 10 points in 54 games. He's expected to be in uniform.

"We weren't really pushing to make any big deals because at the end of the day we like our team," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said.

The Flyers also picked up defenseman Kyle McLaren from San Jose for a sixth-round choice in 2009. McLaren likely will be assigned to the team's minor-league affiliate in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia now opens a season-high five-game stretch at the Wachovia Center, where it has lost two of its last three overall. The club has also dropped two of its last three home matchups against Calgary, which seeks its first six-game road winning streak since Dec. 9-18, 2007.

Jokinen has 16 points in 36 career games against the Flyers, who won the most recent meeting between these teams 3-2 on Oct. 4, 2007 in Calgary.

The addition of Jokinen also may ease the loss of Todd Bertuzzi, who will miss at least a month after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week.
