Sabres end 11-game winless streak against Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Chris Drury had a goal and assist in Buffalo's 4-1 win over New Jersey on Tuesday night, helping the Sabres snap an 11-game winless streak against the Devils.

J.P. Dumont also had a goal and assist, while defenseman Brian Campbell, with the go-ahead goal, and Daniel Briere also scored. Martin Biron stopped 21 shots for the Sabres, who had gone 0-8-3 against the Devils since a 2-1 win at Buffalo on Jan. 12, 2002.

Buffalo also improved to 9-9-0 this season, winning only its third game in the last 10.

Scott Gomez scored for the Devils, who were coming off consecutive wins against Washington. New Jersey is 2-3-2 in its last seven and hasn't won three straight since March 2004 when it won four in a row.

Tied 1-1, Drury set up the game-winner getting the puck behind the net and then feeding Campbell, pinching in at the left circle. Campbell's shot went through two Devils defenders and beat Martin Brodeur on the short side on a power-play seven minutes into the second period.

Drury then sealed the win 8 minutes into the third period after Brodeur came out to stop Mike Grier's shot on a rush from the left circle. Drury out-muscled Jamie Langenbrunner to the rebound and, from a bad angle, had his shot go in off Brodeur's outstretched stick.

Dumont tied the game with a rising one-timer from the high slot midway through the first period, three minutes after Gomez opened the scoring converting a scramble in front.

The Devils sputtered after getting off to a strong start. Gomez's goal came on New Jersey's ninth shot on net, but the Devils managed just five more through the next 33 minutes.

New Jersey finished with 22 shots to Buffalo's 24.

Biron was hardly tested with most of the Devils' shots coming from the perimeter.

Game notes

Devils RW Grant Marshall assisted on Gomez's goal, giving him two goals and three assists in three games. ... Former Sabres captain Mike Foligno was among six inducted into the Sabres Hall of Fame during a pre-game ceremony. Foligno played 10 seasons with Buffalo through 1990-91, and his 247 career goals with Buffalo rank sixth on the franchise list and he's second with 1,450 penalty minutes. ... Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who's missed seven games with a broken right thumb, said he's meeting with a doctor Wednesday to evaluate his progress. Expected to be out until mid-December, Miller said he is gaining more flexibility in his thumb.
