BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Chris Drury had a goal and assist in
Buffalo's 4-1 win over New Jersey on Tuesday night, helping the
Sabres snap an 11-game winless streak against the Devils.
J.P. Dumont also had a goal and assist, while defenseman Brian
Campbell, with the go-ahead goal, and Daniel Briere also scored.
Martin Biron stopped 21 shots for the Sabres, who had gone 0-8-3
against the Devils since a 2-1 win at Buffalo on Jan. 12, 2002.
Buffalo also improved to 9-9-0 this season, winning only its
third game in the last 10.
Scott Gomez scored for the Devils, who were coming off
consecutive wins against Washington. New Jersey is 2-3-2 in its
last seven and hasn't won three straight since March 2004 when it
won four in a row.
Tied 1-1, Drury set up the game-winner getting the puck behind
the net and then feeding Campbell, pinching in at the left circle.
Campbell's shot went through two Devils defenders and beat Martin
Brodeur on the short side on a power-play seven minutes into the
Drury then sealed the win 8 minutes into the third period after
Brodeur came out to stop Mike Grier's shot on a rush from the left
circle. Drury out-muscled Jamie Langenbrunner to the rebound and,
from a bad angle, had his shot go in off Brodeur's outstretched
Dumont tied the game with a rising one-timer from the high slot
midway through the first period, three minutes after Gomez opened
the scoring converting a scramble in front.
The Devils sputtered after getting off to a strong start.
Gomez's goal came on New Jersey's ninth shot on net, but the Devils
managed just five more through the next 33 minutes.
New Jersey finished with 22 shots to Buffalo's 24.
Biron was hardly tested with most of the Devils' shots coming
from the perimeter.
Devils RW Grant Marshall assisted on Gomez's goal, giving
him two goals and three assists in three games. ... Former Sabres
captain Mike Foligno was among six inducted into the Sabres Hall of
Fame during a pre-game ceremony. Foligno played 10 seasons with
Buffalo through 1990-91, and his 247 career goals with Buffalo rank
sixth on the franchise list and he's second with 1,450 penalty
minutes. ... Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who's missed seven games
with a broken right thumb, said he's meeting with a doctor
