NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nashville goalie Chris Mason was credited with a goal and made 23 saves for his fifth consecutive victory in the Predators' 5-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night.

Mason, forced into the starting role with Tomas Vokoun lost for the season because of a blood condition, was credited with the goal when the Coyotes shot the puck into their own net on a delayed penalty midway through the third period.

After a scoreless first period, Nashville scored two goals in a 23-second span in the opening minute of the second period.

With Nashville on the power play, Martin Erat scored the first goal on a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle that trickled into the net off of goalie David LeNeveu 25 seconds into the middle session.

Scott Hartnell followed quickly, adding his 25th goal. Hartnell carried the puck into the Phoenix zone on the right side, pulled up in the right circle and fired a slap shot by LeNeveu's glove.

Yanic Perreault put the Predators ahead 3-0 at 9:14 of the second period.

After being denied on a breakaway by LeNeveu earlier in the shift, Perreault regrouped, carried the puck into the Phoenix zone and fired a slap shot from the top of the left circle by LeNeveu's glove.

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg scored the only Phoenix goal of the game at 9:47 of the third period.

Scottie Upshall added a third-period goal and Paul Kariya had two assists for Nashville.

Game notes
The Coyotes signed defenseman Zbynek Michalek to a four-year contract extension. The rookie has played in all 81 games this season, posting nine goals and 15 assists. ... The Predators will face the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
