EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Robbie Schremp's first-period goal sent
the Edmonton Oilers on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Phoenix
Coyotes in a preseason game Tuesday night.
Edmonton (3-0) took a 1-0 lead just eight minutes in when
Schremp, last season's leading scorer in the OHL, scored on a
two-man advantage. He completed a perfect tic-tac-toe passing setup
from Petr Sykora and Ales Hemsky.
Hemsky, the Oilers' top scorer with 77 points last season, and
Sykora -- who signed as a free agent-- have quickly shown good
The Oilers took advantage of another two-man power play seven
minutes later when Raffi Torres tipped in Sykora's point shot to
make it 2-0.
Toby Petersen bolstered his case to make the Oilers roster when
he scored five minutes into the second period. Petersen beat former
Edmonton goalie Mike Morrison with a stick-side shot that gave the
Oilers a 3-0 lead.
Phoenix (0-2) finally got on the board late in the second period
when Josh Gratton slipped a shot past screened Oilers starting
goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers.
