Nashville 8, Columbus 1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Nashville left wing Ramzi Abid scored three goals in the Predators' 8-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

The 26-year-old Abid led the AHL's Chicago Wolves in goals (34), assists (42) and points (76) last season and also had 165 penalty minutes.

Nashville (1-1) connected on its first four shots as neither starting goalie Frederik Norrena nor replacement Tomas Popperle was effective for Columbus (2-1). Nashville goalie Tomas Vokoun stopped 23 of 24 shots.

The Predators' Mikko Lehtonen opened the scoring 2:23 into the game. Two minutes later, Abid added his first goal on a power play. Rich Peverley and Kimmo Timonen scored next and Nashville had a 4-0 lead just over seven minutes into the first period.

It was the first NHL game at the two-year-old FedExForum, home of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies.

The Predators added a second-period goal from Alexander Radulov, who had assisted on Peverley's goal, and another score from Darcy Hordichuk in the third.

Abid's other two goals came in the final period. The last was unassisted and extended Nashville's lead to the final score.

Norrena took a seat midway through the second period, having allowed four goals on 12 shots.

It wasn't until the 14:16 mark of the second that the Blue Jackets solved Vokoun, as Alexandre Picard scored on a power play, cutting the Predators lead to 5-1.
