CHICAGO (AP) -- The Edmonton Oilers continue to take advantage when their games last longer than 60 minutes.
Rookie Andrew Cogliano tipped in his second goal of the game at 3:01 of overtime to lift Edmonton to a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
Cogliano redirected Robert Nilsson's cross-ice feed past Patrick Lalime from the edge of the crease.
Cogliano, who posted his first career two-goal game, scored in overtime for the second straight contest. He had connected 1:53 into the extra period Friday at Columbus to lift Edmonton to a 2-1 victory.
"It was a nice play by Nils," Cogliano said. "He does a good job of finding guys around the net. I was going back-door and had an empty net on my stick."
Cogliano, Edmonton's first pick (25th overall) in the 2005 NHL draft has six goals and three assists in seven games.
"He's made two great plays in back-to-backs," Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish said. "The 4-on-4 is just made for his game. He gets the puck, just takes off and makes the play."
Edmonton posted its league-leading 17th win in contests that go to overtime or a shootout. The Oilers, who have 33 victories overall, played in their 22nd overtime match, second in the NHL to Atlanta.
Seventeen of Edmonton's overtime games have gone to a shootout, where the Oilers are 14-3.
According to MacTavish, the key to the Oilers' overtime and shootout success has been goaltending. Sunday, Mathieu Garon stopped 33 of 38 shots.
"It's been very good," MacTavish said. "Garon's stopped 30 of 32 shots in shootouts. Normally one goal is enough and we have enough guys to score one."
Dustin Penner, Curtis Glencross, Nilsson and Marty Reasoner also scored in regulation for Edmonton, 6-1-0 in its last seven games.
Chicago's Dustin Byfuglien scored during a goalmouth scramble with 4:35 left in the third period to tie the game and set up overtime.
Chicago's Robert Lang had a goal and two assists. Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith and Jason Williams also scored in regulation for the Blackhawks.
Lalime, normally Chicago's backup, made his eighth start in nine games. He blocked 19 shots.
Chicago's No. 1 goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin, missed his ninth straight game with back spasms.
"It was that kind of game at both ends of the ice with some weird goals," Lalime said. "The puck bounced here and there, but we battled hard."
"It's just weird things happen," Chicago coach Denis Savard said. "They capitalized on their chances. We had plenty of chances, too."
Following a faceoff, Reasoner fired in a loose puck at 1:29 of the third to give Edmonton a 4-3 lead. Lang replied with a power-play goal 1:58 later to tie it at 4.
Cogliano scored at 6:12 of the third to give Edmonton the lead again.
Penner's power-play goal opened the scoring 2:52 into the game. Left uncovered in the slot, he took Joni Pitkanen's centering pass, spun and in whipped a backhand shot.
Sharp tied it at 7:50 of the first. His one-timer from the left circle, off Jonathan Toews' cross-ice feed, sailed in over Garon.
Each team scored twice in the second.
Keith gave Chicago a 2-1 lead at 8:22, beating Garon on the short side. Glencross tied it 1:41 later, cutting across the slot and beating Lalime over the shoulder.
Williams gave the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead with 8:07 left when he poked in the puck during a goalmouth scramble.
Nilsson tied it again with 1:14 left on a broken play. Keith knocked the puck off Sam Gagner's stick, but it rolled to Nilsson at the edge of the crease.
