DETROIT -- Marian Hossa has made himself right at home in his first season with the Detroit Red Wings.
Hossa scored his second goal of the game with 2 minutes left to help Detroit beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 on Friday night.
Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and assist, Jiri Hudler and Kris Draper also scored, Pavel Datsyuk added two assists, and Chris Osgood made 13 saves.
Fedor Tyutin scored twice for Columbus, Jakub Voracek added a goal, and Pascal Leclaire stopped 30 shots.
Hossa's shot from the bottom of the left circle tricked through Leclaire for the winner. Datsyuk got the puck to Hossa after winning a faceoff.
"We had a plan. The inside wing is going to jump. The puck came up to me," Hossa said. "I surprised the goalie. Just tried to shoot basically at the paint. I think it just hit the outside of his pad and he put it in himself."
It was his 13th goal and Hossa leads the Red Wings with 26 points.
"He puts a lot of heat on himself to deliver," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said.
Draper added an empty-net, short-handed goal with 6 seconds left.
He talked about how valuable an addition Hossa has been.
"He's been unbelievable for this hockey team, not just the way he plays but he's a great guy in the room," Draper said. "He works so hard every night. I think everyone knew he was a world-class hockey player, but until you're with him every day you don't know how hard he works."
The Blue Jackets were effective for most of the second and third periods.
"In the second period we played pretty well, in the third period we played well," said Jason Chimera. "To lose like that, with a couple of minutes left, is tough."
Tyutin tied it 1:17 into the third period with his second goal of the game and third of the season. His slap shot from the center red line deflected off of Hossa's stick just outside the blue line and beat Osgood.
"Just get lucky. They let me skate it up to the red line. I thought 'I can dump it in or shoot," Tyutin said. "I don't know why, but I took a shot on goal. If I shoot 100 more of those, I'm sure they wouldn't go in."
The win made it easier for Osgood to talk about the goal.
"That [the deflection off of Hossa's stick] was a long way out," he said. "I've got to figure out a way to get over there."
Osgood has a history of giving up long goals. When he backstopped the Red Wings to the 1998 Stanley Cup, he gave up goals from outside the blue line in the first three series to Phoenix's Jeremy Roenick, St. Louis' Al MacInnis and Dallas' Jamie Langenbrunner.
Hossa's goal with 25 seconds left in the second period gave the Red Wings a 3-2 lead. He beat Leclaire with a one-time slap shot for his 12th goal.
"We have to learn how to play the last two minutes of the period," said Tyutin.
His first goal, with 2:32 left in the middle period, tied it at 2. His wrist shot from the left point eluded Osgood.
Hudler's power-play goal 8:43 into the second period gave Detroit a 2-1 lead. Hudler jammed a shot in off a goal-mouth scramble for his eighth goal.
Voracek opened the scoring with 6 minutes left in the first period with his fourth goal as he put in the rebound of R.J. Umberger's shot.
Zetterberg's power-play goal with 2:54 remaining in the opening period tied it. He beat Leclaire from the right circle for his 11th goal.
Game notes
Detroit RW Dan Cleary returned after missing eight games because of an eye infection. ... Red Wings' RW Tomas Holmstrom missed his fifth game with back spasms. ... Columbus RW Jared Boll played junior hockey for the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers in suburban Detroit. ... Osgood has 372 wins to tie Andy Moog for 13th place on the career list.
