Florida's goaltender made 27 saves for his second consecutive shutout and Michael Frolik scored twice to help the Florida Panthers beat Nashville 3-0 Tuesday night.
"He looks good," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "Vokey's moving well. He looks like the dominant goalie we had for years."
Cory Stillman also scored to help Florida win for the eighth time in its last 11 games. The Panthers are 7-1-2 in December, tying a franchise record for victories in the month.
Vokoun, who blanked Colorado 3-0 on Sunday, got his third shutout of the season. He spent eight seasons with Nashville before being traded to Florida last offseason. This was his second game against the Predators. He lost 4-3 in Nashville last season.
"It's probably the only team in the league I haven't won against," Vokoun said. "So it's nice to get a win, especially against your former team. It s a big game for us, big two points, so you ve got to be happy about that."
Pekka Rinne made 40 saves for Nashville, which was outshot 43-27. He came in with three shutouts in his last five starts.
"I kind of knew they would shoot from anywhere," Rinne said. "They had a good start and we didn't have too much going on. It was a rough night from our side."
Vokoun's best save came early in the third period when he stopped David Legwand's backhand from close range.
Nashville center Rich Peverley came close to breaking a scoreless tie in the first period, but his low wrist shot went off the post.
Frolik scored at 13:12 of the second period when he took a centering pass from Nick Boynton from behind the net. Frolik held the puck as a Predators defender slid in front of him and put a shot over the right shoulder of Rinne.
He added an empty-netter in the final minute.
Stillman made it 2-0 at 15:28 of the third when he put a rebound into an open net after Rinne stopped Richard Zednik on a breakaway.
Nashville had five shutouts in its previous 12 games, while Florida had three in its last 10.
"The way both teams are going defensively, we score that first goal and we re probably sitting here going, we won 1-0 or 2-0, whatever it may be," Trotz said.
