DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings figured the best way to beat star Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller was to keep firing the puck at him. Eventually, it worked.

Mikael Samuelsson scored the go-ahead goal with 2:34 remaining and Detroit beat the Sabres 3-1 Saturday night.

"We were hoping to wear [Miller] down. We thought if we stayed at their net, we'd get our opportunities," Red Wings' coach Mike Babcock said. "He made some great saves early, but we stayed patient and were able to get the win."

Samuelsson also added an assist, Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist and Marian Hossa also scored for Detroit, which won its sixth straight. Ty Conklin made 21 saves.

Derek Roy scored for Buffalo, which had its four-game winning streak snapped. Miller stopped 45 shots.

Samuelsson flipped a backhander past Miller from the slot for his 10th goal after taking a pass from Hudler.

"Hudler gave me the puck coming into the zone. I tried to drive to the net, but couldn't really do it, so I pulled up," Samuelsson said. "I gave it to Huds and the defenseman lost me for a second and [Hudler] made a great play. I had a lot of time."

Miller thought Samuelsson was going to deflect the puck.

"I thought it was going to be a tip play but he knocked it down," he said.

Hossa got his 20th goal just 59 seconds later.

Hudler tied it at 1 with three minutes left in the second period, beating Miller with a one-time slap shot from the top of the left circle for his 16th goal as he took a pass from Brett Lebda.

"They're tough. Ryan gave them a good chance to win," Conklin said. "He made some big saves. The longer games like that stay close, and we're controlling the play, we're going to break through."

Roy opened the scoring 5:03 into the first period when he shoveled in a rebound for his 16th goal.

Game notes
Miller is from East Lansing, Mich., and played college hockey at Michigan State. ... Detroit D Niklas Kronwall didn't play because of the flu.
