GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Jarrett Stoll's timing was perfect.

Stoll scored his first goals of the season, twice giving Los Angeles the lead and the Kings went on to beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-3 on Saturday night.

"Very timely goals," Stoll said. "That was the story of the game."

Stoll broke a 2-2 tie when he took a pass from Scott Parse in the low left slot, faked Ilya Bryzgalov to the ice with a backhand move and pulled the puck across for a forehand shot into the open right side of the net with 17:44 to go. Parse had taken the puck from Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle just outside the Phoenix zone.

Stoll's first goal, with 4 seconds left on the Kings' second two-man advantage of the second period, gave the Kings a 2-1 lead at 14:24.

"The 5-on-3 helped," Stoll said. "We can be a little sharper on it. It took us a little while to figure it out, the first minute or so, but we got the goal which was the important thing."

Dustin Brown also scored twice, Wayne Simmonds added a goal and Anze Kopitar had three assists to help the Kings win their third straight game.

"I really like the way our team adjusted in several different areas of our game," said Los Angeles coach Terry Murray, whose Kings lost 6-3 to the Coyotes in the season opener. "It was an attitude to want the puck, to want to make plays and to hold on to the puck. We started doing that more the middle of last season but started getting away from it a little bit."

Shane Doan had two goals, and Radim Vrbata also scored for Phoenix. The Kings snapped the Coyotes' four-game winning streak.

After Simmonds extended the lead to 4-2 with 10:48 remaining, Ed Jovanovski split the Kings' defense with a pass to Doan, who backhanded the puck past Quick to make it 4-3 with 7:30 left.

Brown added an empty-net goal a split-second ahead of the final horn, the Kings' third power-play goal in seven opportunities.

"Empty-net goals don't matter to me," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "It's giving up three power-play goals that is frustrating to me. That means you've got to score four to win."

Doan opened the scoring off a rebound at 9:52 of the first period. Brown tied it at 4:41 of the second off a cross-ice pass from Kopitar.

"Excellent," Tippett said about the Coyotes' captain. "A lot of guys can take a page from that. We need everybody on board every night. We had some guys who didn't pull their weight tonight."

Vrbata scored 78 seconds after Brown's second goal, forcing a shot through Jonathan Quick's glove to make it 2-2.
