YEAR WEEK W-L-OL RANK COMMENT
2005-06 Week 3 3-6-1 26 One of the few highlights has been waiting for Cujo to reach his 400th career win. Phoenix doesn't have a go-to scorer, the team is averaging just 2.3 per game and Comrie and Nedved have combined for one goal. Gretz could likely score more if he was in the lineup!
2005-06 Week 4 5-8-1 23 They've lost two straight, but the Coyotes have been in each game. Three of their last four have been one-goal games. Coach Wayne Gretzky called it a combo of "a lack of belief and a lack of effort." If you can't believe in The Great One, who can you believe in?
2005-06 Week 5 7-8-2 23 The Coyotes hold their own after two big back-to-back wins over L.A. and Detroit. So why couldn't they keep that going vs. the lowly Blackhawks?! An 0-for-6 outing on the PP doesn't help. Are you seeing a theme here?
2005-06 Week 6 9-9-2 15 We don't know how long it will last, and, on paper the Coyotes don't look like the best team in the West, but they've found a way to go 4-2 in their last six. Phoenix even stood its ground vs. the Flames (ultimately, three PP led to the Coyotes' loss). Hello, San Jose and Anaheim!
2005-06 Week 7 11-10-2 14 Phoenix is a game over .500 for the first time this season, sitting ninth overall in the conference. Ladislav Nagy has been on a roll, scoring in three of the last four games. Most important -- the Coyotes are in every game and have yet to lose a game by more than two goals.
2005-06 Week 8 13-11-2 14 The Coyotes held their own against the Stars and Canucks, both coming behind back-to-back by Curtis Joseph. (Is someone making a case for the Olympics?) Guess having Grant Fuhr as a goalie coach is a plus.
2005-06 Week 9 15-12-2 14 The Coyotes keep on keeping on. They've won two straight, including a strong 8-4 win over Carolina, and have lost only twice in their last eight games. Ladislav Nagy and Mike Johnson are connecting for Phoenix, which is off until Sunday.
2005-06 Week 10 16-12-2 13 The Coyotes are 11-4-1 since Nov. 3. Not bad for a team many didn't think would make a run at a playoff spot. Ladislav Nagy leads the team with 33 points, and Mike Comrie is alive again with two goals and four assists in the last week.
2005-06 Week 11 16-15-2 15 An emotional week for the Coyotes, who saw coach Wayne Gretzky leave his duties indefinitely to be with his dying mother. Phoenix will have to try hard not to fall off the tracks as it has lost three straight games.
2005-06 Week 13 20-18-2 15 We're giving the Coyotes the benefit of the doubt this week after an emotional stretch. The team is 2-1 since Wayne Gretzky's return, but it will be tested with four of its next five on the road, including games against the Kings, Sens and Sabres.
2005-06 Week 16 24-22-2 18 With Petr Nedved out of town, the Coyotes are trying to string together more wins. They have won four of their last five and sit six points out of the West's final playoff spot. Please boys, no more illegal sticks -- we're not used to seeing Wayne that mad.
2005-06 Week 17 26-24-3 19 The Coyotes have to use that gut-wrenching loss to the Oilers as a motivational tool as they sit six points out of a playoff spot. A bigger decision for the team: who to play in net? The answer will go back and forth between Cujo and Brian Boucher.
2005-06 Week 22 29-29-4 23 Not that long ago, the Coyotes were six points back of the last playoff spot in the West. Now, they're trading fodder for teams who legitimately have a shot. Going 3-5-1 since our last poll will do that to you. One thing's for sure: You can bet Wayne Gretzky would like to forget this season. Sorry, poor choice of words.
2005-06 Week 24 30-32-4 23 Yahoo! The Coyotes ended a three-game skid, enough for them to stay put in our offering. Coach Gretzky is moving lines around and trying to stress cleaner play (only Chicago has more PIM than Phoenix).
2005-06 Week 25 33-34-4 22 The Coyotes were brought back to Earth, losing to Anaheim after posting three straight wins (albeit vs. Chicago twice and Columbus). Will Coach Gretzky come back? Whenever he's seen a challenge, he's never backed away from it.
2005-06 Week 27 36-38-5 23 Wayne Gretzky is still noncommittal about returning as coach next season, but he's obviously frustrated. He walked past reporters with his head down after a recent loss to the Avs.
