Pernia sets women's 400 hurdles record

HUELVA, Spain -- Heading into the finale of the three-day Iberoamerican Games, Spain leads with 11 gold medals, followed by Cuba with nine.

Spain's Daimy Pernia set a championship record Saturday in the women's 400 hurdles at 54.84.

"I'm very proud to have won here in Huelva," Pernia said. "And especially with a championship record, which gives me great hope going to Athens. There, I hope to be among the medalists."
